The short answer

Reddit's working answer is the Yamaha NMAX: enough engine for Bali's hills and two-up riding, still light enough to park and filter. Smaller Varios and Scoopys are recommended for confident solo riders on a budget; the XMAX 250 comes up for touring days and passengers; Honda's ADV gets named for rough back roads. A five-year-old rental NMAX with cooked brakes is a worse bike than a fresh Vario. Check tyres, test both brakes before you leave, make sure two helmets actually fit, and photograph everything.
