Guide — two-up riding

Two people, one bike. Done right.

Half of Bali rides two-up — couples, mates, the occasional surfboard between them. It's legal (one passenger, both helmeted) and it's how most travelling pairs should rent: one good bike beats two cheap ones.

The honest bike advice: the NMAX 155 handles two people fine for the Canggu radius — beach, dinner, coworking. Past thirty minutes or up Ubud's hills with two aboard, it works harder than it likes. The XMAX 250 is the real two-up machine: power that doesn't notice a passenger, a seat built for two adults, and under-seat storage for both helmets when you park. Every rental includes two fitted helmets as standard — no passenger surcharge, no second-helmet fee.

Comfort math for couples

Two riders on a struggling scooter is the most common misery we see on Bali roads. The rule of thumb: keep combined rider weight comfortably under 150 kg on the NMAX for anything beyond errands; the XMAX carries two adults plus a backpack without changing its manners. Split the difference on price by remembering it replaces two bikes, two rentals, and one person always being the follower.
