Best scooter rental in Bali, according to Reddit.

The short answer

Reddit doesn't crown one best scooter rental in Bali. What r/bali consistently recommends is a type of operator: one that checks your licence, insures the bike, takes no passport as deposit, documents condition before you ride, and delivers. Threads name Bikago most often as the reputable example. Overrun Moto is built to pass the same tests — delivery across Bali, no deposit of any kind, bike insurance included, licence checked at every handover.

You typed "reddit" after your search because you wanted a human answer, not a brochure. Fair. We run a rental company — Overrun Moto, depots in Canggu and Ubud — and this page is our attempt to earn that click honestly: we've read the r/bali and r/BaliTravelTips threads people actually land on, quoted them verbatim with links, and answered them with what we know from operating here. Where Reddit disagrees with itself, we've kept the disagreement.

The threads are listed at the bottom. Nothing on this page is a fabricated consensus; where a view is one commenter's, we say so.

What Reddit actually recommends

Read enough "which rental?" threads and the answers stop being shop names and start being criteria. The operators Redditors vouch for share the same habits: they ask to see a licence, the bikes are insured and maintained, nothing of yours is held hostage, and the handover is documented. The operators in the horror stories share the opposite habits.

One comment in the August 2026 licence thread puts the split plainly:

If you go to a legit place like Bikago they will require it and the bike will be insured and in good condition. Of course this is much more expensive.

Driver showed bike license and international license to company. I wouldn't recommend anyone ride without the proper licenses and helmet.

The operator’s answer

That's the honest summary of the market: legitimacy costs more than the IDR 70K guesthouse special, because insurance, servicing and licence checks cost money. Bikago is the name Reddit reaches for most, and they've earned it. We built Overrun to pass the same tests with a different emphasis — a small garage-built fleet (brake upgrades, fresh tyres, 2,000 km service intervals) rather than a big volume one, published rates rather than quotes, and no deposit of any kind rather than a cash or passport hold.

The scams the threads warn about

The recurring warnings are specific, and worth taking seriously. Damage claimed at return for scratches that were already there — beaten by photographing the bike together before you ride. Passports held as "deposit" — beaten by refusing; a passport is not collateral, and an operator who needs yours has priced in disputes. Sudden repair bills with no paperwork behind them — beaten by renting where a written agreement states the excess before you pay anything.

A June 2026 thread — "Damaged the rental scooter, what am I facing?" — is what the failure mode looks like: a renter with no agreed excess negotiating a repair bill from a position of nothing in writing.

The operator’s answer

Our version of the fix: condition photos taken together at handover, a written agreement with the damage excess stated up front — from IDR 500K depending on the machine, the cap on what you can owe — and no deposit held, so there is nothing of yours to argue over. If you rent elsewhere, take the photos anyway. It's two minutes and it settles most arguments before they start.

What it costs, per Reddit

The October 2025 pricing thread quotes the current street range without romance:

Daily: 80k - 250k ish. One day is 24 hours.

I pay 150k a day for mine.. I always go for one of the bigger ones like an nmax or pcx

The operator’s answer

Those numbers are real. A stock Vario from a guesthouse at IDR 70K exists, and for some trips it's the right call. Our NMAX 155 is IDR 250K a day — the top of that quoted range — and the difference is what Reddit keeps telling you to check for: bike insurance included, upgraded brakes and fresh tyres, two fitted helmets, delivery, roadside support from early until late, and no deposit. Weekly and monthly rates drop well below the daily arithmetic; every rate is published on our pricing page, so you never negotiate.

Delivery is the norm now

A question asked in April 2026 — walk to a shop, or have it delivered? — collects a one-line answer that describes the market better than any brochure:

If they refuse to deliver, find another place. They're a commodity.

They drop it off at the airport when I arrive and pick it up from the airport when I leave.

The operator’s answer

Agreed. We don't run a shopfront queue at all — the bike comes to your villa with two helmets, a phone mount, a raincoat and a full tank. Free at any rental length in our Canggu, Ubud and Umalas–Kerobokan zones; free island-wide on weekly and monthly rentals; a published per-trip fee for short rentals further out (IDR 75K per leg to Seminyak and Kuta–Legian, IDR 125K per leg to Sanur, Jimbaran, Nusa Dua and the Bukit), shown in the quote before you commit.

Canggu, Ubud, Uluwatu — the area asks

The same request re-appears per area — "Rent a scooter in Canggu", "No BS scooter rental in Uluwatu?" — and the advice inside barely changes: same checks, same scams, same price logic. What changes is logistics. Canggu is dense with rentals of every quality; Ubud's long-stay crowd rents monthly and cares about hills; the Bukit has fewer operators, so prices wander and delivery matters more. The Uluwatu thread has the whole market in two comments:

Got it for 90k/day. No insurance nothing. The guy did not even see my license. He just asked me if I knew how to drive. Lol

The no Insurance and not asking for a license is pretty standard in Bali. Trouble comes around when you have to pay bribe to the police when not having a license or even worse.. when youre involved in an accident..

The operator’s answer

That exchange is the trade-off, stated by the people making it. Our footprint, for the record: depots in Canggu and Ubud with free delivery at any length (Umalas–Kerobokan included), and Bukit delivery — Uluwatu, Bingin, Padang Padang — free on weekly and monthly rentals, IDR 125K per leg on dailies, quoted in the booking before you commit.

Asked and answered

What is the best scooter rental company in Bali according to Reddit?

Reddit doesn't agree on one company. Bikago is the name mentioned most often as a reputable, insured operator; beyond that, r/bali advice is criteria, not brands: licence checked, bike insured, condition documented, no passport held. Overrun Moto publishes its rates and terms so you can apply those tests yourself.

How much should a scooter rental in Bali cost per day?

Commenters in an October 2025 r/bali thread quote IDR 70K–250K per day. The low end is a stock small scooter with no insurance and no delivery; the top end is a maintained, insured NMAX-class bike. A day is normally 24 hours, not a calendar day.

What scooter rental scams should I watch for in Bali?

The three recurring ones on Reddit: damage claimed at return for pre-existing scratches (photograph the bike together at handover), passports held as deposit (never hand yours over), and repair bills with no written agreement behind them (rent where the damage excess is stated in writing before you pay).

Do Bali rental companies deliver the scooter to you?

The good ones do — r/bali commenters treat refusal to deliver as a reason to rent elsewhere. Overrun delivers across Bali: free at any length in Canggu, Ubud and Umalas–Kerobokan, free island-wide on weekly and monthly rentals, published per-trip fees elsewhere.
