What licence do I need to rent a scooter in Bali?

A valid home-country motorcycle licence plus an International Driving Permit (Category A) if you are visiting, or, for residents, the Indonesian SIM the machine's capacity needs — a SIM C covers up to 250cc, a SIM CI covers over 250cc to 500cc, anything above 500cc needs a SIM CII — which is what the 745cc X-ADV 750 takes. Is a car licence enough?

No. A car-only licence — or an IDP issued without the motorcycle category — does not cover riding a scooter, and travel insurers routinely refuse claims on that basis.

Where do I get an IDP?

From the motoring authority in your home country before you travel. They are issued at home, not in Bali.

Do you rent without a licence?

No. The licence check at handover is not theatre — riding unlicensed undermines your insurance position and exposes you at checkpoints.

Getting an IDP

IDPs are issued in your home country, usually by the national automobile association (AAA, AA, ADAC, and equivalents), usually same-day and cheap. They cannot be legitimately issued once you're already in Indonesia — arrange it before you fly. If your licence situation is unusual, message us before booking and we'll tell you honestly whether we can rent to you.
