No-deposit scooter rental in Bali. Actually none.
Yes — renting a scooter in Bali with no deposit is possible, but rarer than the phrase suggests. Plenty of rentals advertise "no deposit" and then ask to hold your passport or a stack of cash at the door. To be plain about ours: we hold nothing. No cash deposit, no card pre-authorisation, and we will never keep your passport — documents are checked together at handover and handed straight back.
Instead, the rental agreement carries a capped damage excess: IDR 500K on the NMAX 155 and ADV 160, IDR 1M on the XMAX 250 and X-ADV 750, IDR 1M for theft on any unit. The excess is the most you'd ever pay towards a covered claim — not money taken up front. Damage is documented together at handover and again at return, so pre-existing scuffs are never your problem.

Why we can do this
Every unit carries GPS and is insured, our fleet is small enough to know each bike's condition precisely, and the excess cap covers the realistic risk. The deposit most operators take isn't protection — it's leverage. We'd rather compete on the bikes.
What we check instead of money: your home-country motorcycle licence and IDP (or an Indonesian licence for residents, tiered by engine size), in person, at handover. That check protects you too — riding without a valid licence voids the bike's insurance.

What the excess replaces
A deposit is money you hand over before anything happens; getting it back is a negotiation. An excess is the opposite shape: nothing changes hands up front, and if — and only if — there is actual covered damage, you pay the repair cost up to a published cap. IDR 500,000 on the core fleet, IDR 1,000,000 on the halo units, IDR 1,000,000 for theft on any bike. Because condition photographs are taken together at handover and again at return, a fair outcome doesn't depend on who argues better.

The questions to ask any operator — deposit or not
If an operator says "no deposit", four follow-ups separate the marketing from the policy: Is my passport or any document kept? Is a card pre-authorisation held? What exactly is my maximum liability for damage, and is it written down? And is insurance included or a paid add-on? Our answers, for the record: nothing is held, nothing is pre-authorised, the cap is published per class (and in your confirmation), and bike insurance is included — the rider's own travel insurance is a separate thing, covered properly on the linked insurance guide.
