Scooter rental in Bali with insurance included.

Yes — every Overrun rental in Bali includes insurance on the bike. "Included" means no add-on fee at checkout and nothing to opt into: the policy sits on the bike as you ride it. What it covers is the bike — damage and theft — subject to a capped excess, and knowing exactly where that line falls is the point of this page.

The excess (your maximum liability towards a covered claim) is IDR 500,000 on the NMAX 155 and ADV 160, IDR 1,000,000 on the XMAX 250 and X-ADV 750, and IDR 1,000,000 for theft on any unit. Nothing is held up front — no deposit, no card pre-authorisation — so the excess is a ceiling, not a cash exchange.

And the honest half: bike insurance does not cover you. Your medical costs, your injury, your phone — that is your own travel insurance's job, and it comes with licence conditions of its own. The guide to that is linked below; this page is about what the rental itself brings.

What included insurance actually means

It covers the bike, not you. If the bike is damaged or stolen, the insurance pays for it — you're responsible for the excess, which is the most you'd ever pay towards a covered claim. There is no cash or card deposit held against you; the excess is only charged if there is actual damage, and pre-existing scuffs documented at handover are never counted against you.

What the bike's insurance does not cover: your medical costs, injury, lost belongings, or anything about your trip beyond the bike itself. And cover depends on the bike being ridden lawfully by the named rider — riding under the influence, without a valid licence for the class, off-road, or off Bali without telling us falls outside the policy.

The excess, per class

Two damage tiers, one theft figure: IDR 500,000 on the core fleet (NMAX 155, ADV 160), IDR 1,000,000 on the halo units (XMAX 250, X-ADV 750), and IDR 1,000,000 for theft on every bike. If a repair costs less than the excess, you pay the repair, not the cap. Your confirmation and each bike's page state the figure that applies to your booking.

Who includes insurance — and who sells it (checked 25 September 2026)

"Insurance included" is one of the most-used phrases in Bali scooter rental, and operators mean different things by it. We read the public pages of three deposit-free operators we rate and recorded what each actually publishes, with source URLs, as accessed on 25 September 2026. This is a factual comparison, not an attack — check their pages, because terms change.

The insurance that isn't included — yours

No rental operator insures your body. Nearly every travel insurance policy attaches conditions to motorcycle riding: a valid motorcycle licence from home, an IDP, a helmet on, no alcohol — and some cap engine size, which matters on the 250cc XMAX and is decisive on the 745cc X-ADV 750. Miss one condition and many insurers can decline a scooter-accident claim entirely. Check your policy's motorcycle clause before you fly, and read our travel-insurance guide below for what to look for.
