Ride guide — out of Ubud

Ubud is the starting point, not the destination.

Ubud centre is temples, traffic and tour buses. The reason to base yourself here is what's twenty minutes in every direction — and a scooter is the only way to do it on your own clock. We deliver in Ubud, so the rides below start at your villa gate.

The short list: Tegalalang rice terraces (15 minutes north — go before 08:00, before the crowds and the heat), Tirta Empul water temple (25 minutes), Gunung Kawi (30 minutes), Campuhan Ridge and Penestanan (10 minutes west), and the big one — Kintamani and the Mount Batur caldera, about an hour's climb north.

The Kintamani run

It's a 750-metre climb on a sustained gradient — the NMAX will do it, but the ADV or XMAX makes it enjoyable rather than patient. Leave by 07:00: you ride up through Tegalalang while it's cool, hit the caldera rim viewpoints before the cloud builds, eat lunch looking at Batur, and descend before the afternoon rain cycle. Bring a jacket — the rim is a genuine 10 degrees cooler than Ubud.

Fuel before you climb (Pertamina on Jalan Raya Andong), and treat the descent gently — it's long, and brakes matter, which is one reason every bike we run carries upgraded pads.
